Our new# 1 Viceroy, 5/8” shank is an amazingly stable tool. This Viceroy tool is manufactured from a 5/8” square shank with a turned 5/8” diameter for the tool handle. With a shaft length of 9” from the handle, this tool is ideal for large diameter work. The #1 Viceroy tool will quickly become a “go-to” tool for the brand-new turner; just lay the tool on the tool rest and traverse back and forth to remove the material. Several turning class programs often use the Viceroy tools especially for the inside diameter of the bowl turning / fabrication.
For the experienced woodturner, you will be delighted to discover the ease of the tool to use and how efficiently the wood will be removed. When close to your final diameter, the handle can be dropped to ride the bevel on the cutter. The handle length recommended for this heavy duty tool is approximately 18 – 20 inches.
Our Viceroy tools are supplied with a 17″ handle with 3″ epoxied into the handle. Without a handle, the overall length of the tool shaft is 12″. If you are buying the shaft only to use with your own handle, we recommend a 17” handle with about 3″ of the shaft epoxied into the handle.
